Sr. Commercial Credit Analyst

Reporting directly to the AVP, Commercial Credit Manager, you’ll support an impressive and varied portfolio of commercial projects while also seeing your impact on the communities we serve.

Conduct in-depth quality analysis and underwriting for complex and larger business loans, both for existing relationships and new loan requests, particularly those that are more complex in nature or have a greater level of exposure. With over $600M in commitments and a core transaction size of $8-$15M, and ranging between $5M - $30M, the work has a scale and complexity that is compelling. Perform comprehensive annual reviews for the existing commercial loan portfolio and prepare modification requests and any risk rating changes, as needed. Recommend loans within the confines of Metro’s policies and procedures; if carried out by management, recommendations could have a significant impact on MCU credit costs and profitability.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Work independently in analyzing borrowing prospects and more complex loan requests, adhering to Metro’s credit policies, procedures, and concentration limits, as well as state/federal regulations.
  • Collect and review financial information from Members and CPAs and identify any additional financial information necessary to perform a thorough global analysis.
  • Develop an assessment of complex commercial credit risks through a thorough analysis process. Analyze business and personal financial statements and tax returns, industries, management profiles, business/product cycles, collateral, historical operating performance, and cash flow ability.
  • Work with Lenders in preparation of comprehensive and timely loan presentations, analyses, and recommendations.
  • Contribute to discussions surrounding credit structure and mitigating risks.
  • Conduct independent and objective annual reviews of existing credit relationships: prepare annual reviews, renewal requests, loan modifications and risk changes, as needed. Assist management with scheduled and unscheduled loan reviews of the existing portfolio.
  • Interface with commercial appraisers, environmental professionals, and internal stakeholders. Review appraisal reports for accuracy and completeness in a timely manner. Make note of environmental risks and identify when further environmental due diligence may be necessary. Prepare written reviews with appropriate recommendations to support analysis and findings of Metro’s risk/exposure acceptance.
  • Accompanied by Relationship Manager, meet with commercial lending prospects and borrowers to probe for information and develop an understanding of the business and its management.

Requirements/Skills Needed

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent combination of education and work experience strongly preferred.
  • Formal credit training strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years of commercial credit/lending experience strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience with large and complex commercial loans – must have some experience with transactions in the $5-10M range.

    Skills/Knowledge/Certifications

  • Ability to analyze commercial and industrial (C&I), construction, as well as commercial real estate businesses, environmental reporting and commercial business and real estate appraisals.
  • Excellent quantitative/analytical and research skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with accurate, thorough results.
  • Must be a self-starter, anticipate and identify potential concerns and research solutions.
  • Proven PC skills (Word & Excel). Knowledge of Loan Vantage preferred but must be familiar with typical loan operating systems and be willing to learn the system.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; proven ability to work within a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects at the same time and meet deadlines.
  • Capable of working independently and make educated credit recommendations with minimal guidance.
  • Proactive, team player – involvement in special projects as they arise.
  • Understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality of credit and member information.

    Work Environment:

  • Position is eligible for Hybrid Work Agreement: minimum of 3 days/week in office. (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and another day to be worked out within department).
  • Position is eligible for Compressed Work Agreement (4x10) – all four days must be on-site in Chelsea.
